civic duties

W & I voted absentee today and I want everyone else to take the opportunity as well. I’m psyched and I got a free sticker. ;) I won’t be able to be there for the regular day. The appropriate office is in Park Plaza next to the court house with the electronic voting machines. I only had my ID with me, and in a total of less than 10 minutes they printed out a fresh voter registration card for me and had me through and on my way. Both the republican and democratic primaries are this month and you can vote absentee like me for a number of reasons if you won’t be around the day off, including being out of town for work or vacation. No proof, etc. necessary. I’m not endorsing a candidate. But perhaps I can give some wandering webbie the links they need to see. Just inform yourself and voice your opinion. It’s that important. It’s a process I have faith in.

More hedgie progress.

I made a little more hedgie progress today.  Changed out Elvis’ linens with clean ones (except for one blanket so that it still smells familiar) and picked him up for a bit.  He didn’t care for that much, but while I was still reassembling his cage he actually walked around and had a snack!  This is progress for a visiting hedgehog.  Anyway.  He’s still adorable and still running on his wheel, but I didn’t get a chance to take photos.

In Liz news, I got two really nifty lunch containers today (some manner of hybrid between tupperware & bento boxes).  One is specifically for salads (with a lettuce crisper and container for dressing!) and  one has nesting containers.  I didn’t have lunch today so I realized that I really needed these.  Particularly during tax season.  So tomorrow Liz will pack an awesome salad!

Merry Christmas!

Elvis and I were too busy wrapping gifts yesterday to fit a blog in.  All the pets are doing well.  Elvis *definitely* got some running in on his wheel last night.  The tree is glowing beautifully.  There appears to be a Monk marathon on TV.

Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone!

Elvis and his adventuring-box (for Dec 22 07)

Elvis and I stayed up sorting and organizing last night, so this Elvis-blog is happening Sunday at lunchtime. lol. While I’m eating my nice blueberry oatmeal. I got Elvis out of his cage for a while to adventure a bit in a spare cardboard box I had around. He seemed to enjoy relaxing a little bit but still got rather freaked out when I tried to pet him. Oh well. :) Once I finally got to bed, I heard noises suggesting he was checking out his wheel and his food. I took some photos while we were adventuring –

hedgie sitting. day one.

Elvis was very cute today, as expected. He slept all day and burrowed under his main blanket, which covers the entire floor of his cage. He seems to somehow realize that this worries me, and takes every opportunity to locate himself there. The blanket is very heavy and I never actually see how he gets back out from under it. This evening, while cleaning up his cage I realized his water dish was almost empty. He had somehow managed to knock most of the water out and had dampened a large portion of his main (gray) blanket. I believe he has burrowed under the gray blanket to the water-dish-area. I didn’t have another blanket ready to switch out, so I moved his water dish to another area and refilled it. Hopefully he’ll be running on his wheel all night anyway. I picked him up for a bit, he voiced his displeasure (by attempting to spike me), and kicked his tiny adorable feet out into midair. Tomorrow I’ll be able to let him roam a little bit more but today has been long enough. Hopefully his cage will dry overnight. Below, for your enjoyment, a blurry cell phone hedgie photo taken with my cell phone in a moment of insanity.

babysitting Elvis the hedgehog, day 0.

I’m watching little Elvis over the holidays while W is out of town. We brought Elvis and his cage and accessories over tonight. Just getting the giant cage over here was enough of a challenge for today. Elvis was slightly irked at having to travel, but seems to have settled down now and is resting in his cage. Tomorrow we will have some more adventures and hopefully take a few photos.

In other news, I got a Smart Tea Maker for Christmas from W (along with lots of other wonderful gifts I’ll mention another time!) — this great contraption that teavana and tea junction use to prepare teas for customers at their bars. Hot water is poured into the top portion and brewed, and then the pressure sensitive bottom is activated when the teapot is set on top of a mug. This releases perfect leaf-free tea into your mug. It’s absolutely wonderful. I’m looking forward to making myself a perfect cup of tea in the morning. It allows for the process to be so very precise.

Oatmeal raisin cookies, pushing daisies, sleeping cats

Staying up late is harder than it used to be. After getting so groggy I was going over the same paragraph twice I decided to get a bit of sleep. Now, I’m awake and realized there is an episode of PD (see header) that I haven’t watched yet. Joy. It’s my favorite show right now. Then it’s on to studying. Lots of studying. Oh, and I am investigating iWeb and may end up using that for the main page, etc. I am typing this on an iBook.

I’m Liz 2.0, and I’m procrastinating! It’s 9:30 and I’m study for an exam Monday afternoon. This blog is keeping me company while I stay up all night attempting to concentrate. It’s been very, erm, loud today. I seem to be easily distracted lately, and it appears that my studying skills have gone downhill from lack of use. I’m happy to have something on my website again though! Life has been pretty good, and it’s getting better every day. There’s a Beatles song in my head in there somewhere.

Administrative stuff: I’m on dreamhost now and I’m very pleased so far. Reasonable prices, a clean webpanel, and their own one-click-install picks.
